If Geiranger village is your destination rather than the sailing, stay a night there instead and use the village boats.

Pets stay home on this one. Geiranger village and its viewpoints are the goal — three hours ashore will frustrate you, and staying a night unlocks the cheaper village boats at both quiet ends of the day.
